How to identify
- House mice are small and slender, with large ears and a long, thin tail.
- Rats are larger and heavier, with a thick body, a blunt nose and a long, scaly tail.

- A small gray-brown mouse, about 5 1/2 to 7 inches long counting its nearly hairless tail.

- Look for
- A large rat, 12 to 18 inches long including the tail, with coarse brown fur and a lighter belly.
- Where you'll find it
- Lives around houses, outbuildings and other structures, and sometimes moves into walls and attics in cold weather.
Deer mouse

- Look for
- A mouse with a grayish- to reddish-brown back, white underside and large dark eyes, about 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches long with its tail.
- Where you'll find it
- A native mouse of fields and woods that often moves into homes and outbuildings in late fall and early winter.

Pricing shown is for homes up to 3,000 sq ft (Quarterly Plan) and properties up to ½ acre (Patriot and Freedom Plans). Larger homes and properties require a free in-person inspection to confirm your plan. The $99 first visit applies when you sign up online for the Quarterly or Patriot Plan; the Freedom Plan first visit is $199. The Quarterly Plan has no contract. The Patriot and Freedom Plans include a 1-year service agreement. The Freedom Plan includes a termite inspection before Sentricon installation.
DIY prevention tips
- Seal holes and gaps a quarter inch or wider, including under doors and around pipes, using sturdy materials like hardware cloth or steel wool with caulk.
- Store food, pet food and birdseed in sealed containers, and clean up crumbs and spills promptly.
- Use trash cans with tight lids, and don't leave pet food or open water out overnight.
- Trim plants back from the house, and move wood, brick and junk piles away from outside walls.
- Cut down clutter in garages, basements and attics that could serve as nesting spots.
