American Cockroach Control
American cockroaches are large, reddish-brown cockroaches that come inside from drains, basements and crawlspaces. Every Liberty pest control plan covers American cockroaches.
How to identify
- Large cockroaches, about 1½ to 2 inches long, reddish brown.
- A yellowish band with darker markings behind the head.
- Adults have wings and can fly short distances.

American cockroach
Periplaneta americana
- Look for
- A large reddish-brown cockroach, about 1 1/2 inches long, with a pale yellowish band behind its head.
- Where you'll find it
- Most often seen in basements, crawl spaces and around floor drains and sump pumps, and can travel in from outdoors.
Oriental cockroach
Blatta orientalis
- Look for
- A shiny black or very dark brown cockroach, about 1 inch long; females have only tiny wing stubs.
- Where you'll find it
- Favors cool, damp places such as crawl spaces, cellars, basements, floor drains and sewers.
Wood cockroaches
Parcoblatta spp.
- Look for
- A brownish cockroach, about 1 inch long; the males are strong fliers and head toward lights.
- Where you'll find it
- Lives outdoors under loose bark and usually gets inside on firewood or by flying toward lit windows and doors.
Signs you have them
- Cockroaches in basements, crawlspaces, laundry rooms or around floor drains
- Dark, cylinder-shaped droppings
- Dark brown egg cases in hidden corners
- Cockroaches running for cover when a light turns on

When you choose a plan online, a local Service Advisor visits your home for free to confirm it's the right plan. On your first visit, your Service Specialist does a thorough inspection inside and outside to see how bad the problem is, where cockroaches are getting in and what draws them, like floor drains, damp basements and leaks.
Treatment
- Inside treatmentYour first visit always includes treatment inside where cockroaches hide, like basements, laundry rooms and floor drains, and on later visits they treat inside only if it's needed and ask you first.
- Foundation treatmentOutside, they apply a perimeter barrier around your home's foundation for crawling insects, to help keep cockroaches from coming in along pipes and drains.
- Bait where neededThey add granules or cockroach bait where needed, near the damp spots cockroaches use.
Follow-up
Your Service Specialist comes back every 3 months to inspect and treat around your home, which helps keep cockroaches from settling back in. If covered pests show up between visits, just text us.

Pricing shown is for homes up to 3,000 sq ft (Quarterly Plan) and properties up to ½ acre (Patriot and Freedom Plans). Larger homes and properties require a free in-person inspection to confirm your plan. The $99 first visit applies when you sign up online for the Quarterly or Patriot Plan; the Freedom Plan first visit is $199. The Quarterly Plan has no contract. The Patriot and Freedom Plans include a 1-year service agreement. The Freedom Plan includes a termite inspection before Sentricon installation.
DIY prevention tips
- Caulk cracks around doors and windows, and seal openings where pipes and wires come through walls.
- Put tight-fitting screens on windows and door sweeps on exterior doors.
- Don't leave dirty dishes, spilled food or pet food out overnight.
- Keep garbage from piling up, and store paper bags and newspapers in sealed plastic bags.
- Keep firewood outside and bring in only what you plan to burn right away.

What's the difference between American and German cockroaches?
