I’m currently in the process of buying a home, and after our initial inspection, we were told there might be termite damage. We first contacted a large national pest control company hoping to get a quick inspection and quote for negotiation purposes. Unfortunately, they scheduled us for Friday and never showed up. They then rescheduled for Monday and didn't show up again, and the same thing happened on Tuesday. By that point, we had wasted nearly a week of our two-week inspection period and only had two days left. That’s when we called Liberty Pest Control. I explained our situation, and Trai promptly reached out and was able to fit us into his schedule. From the start, he was professional, friendly, communicative, and genuinely helpful. He confirmed the appointment, kept me updated on his arrival time, and called me personally when the report was complete to walk me through his findings. The level of customer service was outstanding, especially after the frustrating experience we had elsewhere. Trai made a stressful situation much easier and gave us the information we needed within our tight timeline. I would 100% recommend Trai and Liberty Pest Control to anyone needing a home inspection or pest services. I was extremely impressed with the company, and once we move into our new home, Liberty Pest Control will be the first company I call for ongoing pest control services.
Carpet Beetle Control for Homes and Businesses
Carpet beetles damage wool, fur, felt and feathers as larvae rather than as adults, and they feed out of sight along carpet edges, in closets and inside floor vents. Carpet beetles are covered by every Liberty pest control plan, and treatment starts with a free inspection.
How to identify
- Adults are small, oval beetles about 1/16 to 1/8 inch long, from black to mottled patterns of white, brown, yellow and orange.
- Larvae are about 1/8 to 1/4 inch long, tan to brownish, slow moving, and densely covered with hairs or bristles.
- The larva is the stage that feeds on fabric; adults feed on flower pollen.
Common carpet beetles in our area
Black carpet beetle
Attagenus unicolor
- Look for
- Adults are black with brown legs, somewhat shiny, oval and about 1/8 to 3/16 inch long. The larva is brown and carrot-shaped with a long brushy tail of brown hairs, and up to 1/2 inch long at maturity.

- Larvae feed on materials of animal origin, including wool, hair, feathers, leather and furs, and on cereal grains and nut meats.
Varied carpet beetle
Anthrenus verbasci
- Look for
- The adult is a rounded oval, convex and about 1/8 inch long, patterned with brown, yellow and white scales. Larvae reach about 3/16 inch long, with alternating light and dark brown stripes.
- Where you'll find it
- Larvae feed on animal-origin materials such as wool, hair, feathers and silk, and are often associated with abandoned bird nests.
Signs you have them
- Threadbare spots and irregular holes, where larvae have grazed along the surface of a material
- Shed skins left behind as larvae grow
- Damage to wool, fur, felt, silk, feathers, skins and leather, while cotton and synthetics are rarely touched unless blended with wool or soiled
Where they're found
Carpet beetle larvae feed where nobody looks: in the folds of fabric such as hems, collars and cuffs, in closets, chests and boxes, along the edges and undersides of rugs, under baseboards, inside floor vents and ducts, and in attics and chimneys.
How Liberty treats it
Inspection
When you choose a plan online, a local Service Advisor visits your home for free to confirm it's the right plan. On your first visit, your Service Specialist does a thorough inspection inside and outside to find where larvae are feeding, like carpet edges, closets, floor vents and stored wool items.
Treatment
- Inside treatmentYour first visit always includes treatment inside where carpet beetle larvae feed, like carpet edges, closets and along baseboards, and on later visits they treat inside only if it's needed and ask you first.
- Perimeter barrierOutside, they apply a perimeter barrier around your home's foundation for crawling insects, to help keep carpet beetles from getting in.
- Cleaning and storage tipsThey point out where larvae feed, like carpet edges, closets and floor vents, and share tips on vacuuming those places and storing wool items in air-tight containers.
Follow-up
Your Service Specialist comes back every 3 months to inspect and treat around your home, which helps keep carpet beetles from settling back in. If covered pests show up between visits, just text us.

- Vacuum along and beneath carpet edges, baseboards, under furniture and stored items, and inside closets and quiet corners.
- Vacuum inside heating vents and ducts, which collect the hair and lint larvae feed on.
