Ant Control
Household ants are small ants that trail into kitchens and bathrooms looking for food and water. Every Liberty pest control plan covers household ants, and your Service Specialist treats around your home every 3 months.
How to identify
- Small ants, usually black, brown or reddish, that walk in lines.
- Three body sections with a narrow waist and bent antennae.
- Workers have no wings. Winged ants may show up when a colony swarms.

Tapinoma sessile
- Look for
- A tiny brown-to-black ant, about 1/16 to 1/8 inch long, that smells like rotten coconut when crushed.
- Where you'll find it
- Trails along kitchen counters and near warm, damp spots indoors, and nests outside under stones, mulch, boards and woodpiles.
Pavement ant
Tetramorium caespitum
- Look for
- A small dark brown to black ant with fine parallel grooves running along its head and back.
- Where you'll find it
- Nests under sidewalks, driveways, patios and slabs, and leaves small piles of sand at cracks near the foundation.
Acrobat ant
Crematogaster spp.
- Look for
- A small, shiny reddish-brown to black ant with a heart-shaped rear end that it raises over its body when disturbed.
- Where you'll find it
- Nests in water-damaged wood around windows, gutters and skylights, in wall voids and insulation, and in nearby trees.
Signs you have them
- Lines of ants along counters, baseboards or windowsills
- Ants gathering around crumbs, spills, pet food or sinks
- Small piles of soil next to sidewalks, slabs or the foundation

- Inside treatmentYour first visit always includes treatment inside where ants trail, like kitchens and bathrooms, and on later visits they treat inside only if it's needed and ask you first.
- Bait and granulesThey add granules in the landscape areas and place ant bait where needed, which worker ants carry back to the nest.
Follow-up
Your Service Specialist comes back every 3 months to inspect and treat around your home, which helps keep ants from moving back in. If covered pests show up between visits, just text us.

Pricing shown is for homes up to 3,000 sq ft (Quarterly Plan) and properties up to ½ acre (Patriot and Freedom Plans). Larger homes and properties require a free in-person inspection to confirm your plan. The $99 first visit applies when you sign up online for the Quarterly or Patriot Plan; the Freedom Plan first visit is $199. The Quarterly Plan has no contract. The Patriot and Freedom Plans include a 1-year service agreement. The Freedom Plan includes a termite inspection before Sentricon installation.
DIY prevention tips
- Wipe up crumbs and sticky spills right away, and keep sweet foods in sealed containers.
- Pick up pet food dishes once your pet has finished eating.
- Seal gaps around door thresholds, windows and the places where pipes and wires enter the house.
- Trim shrubs, vines and tree limbs so they don't touch the siding or roof.
- Fix leaks and replace water-damaged wood so ants have fewer damp places to nest.

Why do I have ants in my kitchen?
Ants come inside looking for food and water. Crumbs, spills, sticky counters, pet food and leaky pipes draw them in, and once a few ants find food, others follow their trail.
How do ants get into my house?
Ants get in through tiny gaps around windows, doors, pipes and cracks in the foundation. Most household ants nest outside in soil or under slabs and walk in to look for food.
How can I keep ants away?
Wipe up crumbs and spills, store food in sealed containers and fix leaks. Keep pet bowls clean and trim plants back from the house.
What's the difference between household ants and carpenter ants?
Carpenter ants are larger, usually black or black and red, and nest in damp or softened wood. Household ants are small and trail in for food. Carpenter ants aren't part of our plans and start with a free inspection.
